One Woman, Sarah Outen, Circles The World Using Only Her Own Power

cvvThere are a lot of adventure seekers out there that take life by storm, and against all odds, come out barely surviving the most extreme of hardships. But one story, in particular, defies those odds to the highest degree.

Sarah Outen, of London, decided to trek the circumference of the world by using only her own human power. After Sarah graduated Oxford University, her father unexpectedly passed away in 2006, which led her to consider the possibility of living on the ocean for several months. It was then, that her adventure started to take form.

The 30 year old travelled the world and finished her 4 year 217 day mission on November 2015, by rowing under the Tower Bridge in London as she was greeted by her followers and her Fiance, Lucy. Sarah’s journey began in London in April 2011. From there she kayaked, rowed, and cycled over 25,000 miles to reach London again. She is the first person in history to row from Japan to Alaska in 150 days.

This unparalleled female athlete has been through grueling winter storms with temperatures reaching -40 in Alaska, cycled the Gobi Desert at temperatures higher than 105, has dealt with life threatening bear and snake encounters, and almost died after her rowboat got caught under the bows of a container ship.

The majority of Sarah’s trek was done solo, but on occasion she would be accompanied by supporters or her girlfriend Lucy. While she was enduring the long row across the Pacific, Sarah called Lucy by satellite phone to propose. The phone call was followed by excitement and tears from both women.

During this incredible adventure, Sarah has gained widespread support from her followers and has been able to raise over $50,000 to help a few of her favorite charities including: CoppaFeel!, the MND Association, WaterAid and the Jubilee Sailing Trust. She has also inspired children to get the most out of life, which was the biggest reason she decided to go on this adventure. She wanted to inspire young people to go after whatever they want in life, no matter what the odds are.

“For me this expedition has always been about the adventure, the challenge, and importantly about the learning. But I also wanted to share this experience with others, to show people, especially young people, that you can do whatever you put your mind to. This is a belief inspired by my late father and is one I carry with me always.”

Her determination and drive lead her to finish the adventure with a bright, smiling face and a the obligatory bottle of champagne. Lucy says now that Sarah is back, they can start planning the wedding. Sarah has since traveled around Britain inspiring people to take life by storm, defying odds, and live their own dreams to the fullest.

Carry More Ammo And Gear With Paintball Pod Harnesses

sacIn paintball your harness is your best friend. As some players spend $700 on a new marker and drop a measly 5 bucks on a Walmart harness, they will be disappointed quickly because of the limited amount of paintballs they can carry. With a limited ammo supply, you either have to be ultra conservative with your shooting or learn to be happy with a very short game. Spending $30-$50 is a small fee for a good paintball harness that will greatly expand your ability to carry significant amounts of ammunition. The more ammo you can carry the longer you can play. If you can carry more ammo than your opponents, you will definitely have the edge by being able to last longer then them or take fewer re-load breaks.

Paintball pod harnesses are such an essential part of your most basic equipment, they are often included in many of the best paintball gun packages. You will find good harnesses for both tournament play and scenario woodsball with most performing the same functions however different appearances. Pod harness for tournament paintball are great to match professional looking jerseys and competition uniforms. For woodsball military simulation style play, paintball harnesses are awesome looking in camouflage to match your tactical outfit. Regardless of the type you choose, it’s important your pod harness has a proper fit. If the ammunition harness you wear is too loose, it will bounce around when you’re running and throw you off balance. The best paintball pod harnesses wrap around the body with a comfortable padded material and secure tightly with a large velcro strap. For players with larger size abdomens, an extra expansion strap is an easy addition.

When shopping for the best paintball harness, make your decision based on how much ammo you want to carry. Harnesses come in all sizes with the smallest carrying only 2 pods and the largest carrying up to 10 or 12. While it’s advantageous to pack as much ammunition in the game as possible, the position you play on the field may call for something different. Front men should keep their gear as light as possible for the fastest movement so they often will use the smaller harnesses, however even larger capacity harnesses work fine when held securely around the waist. Back field players or heavy gunner positions can get away with carrying the most amount of gear as they often move less than the forward positions. Sometimes players who use the largest paintball harnesses become the ‘supplies guy’ on the team, carrying and supplying ammo for everyone else. This can be a fun position to play however dangerous as the extra weight can slow you down, making you an easier target for the opposition.

Most paintball harnesses are designed to carry pods of ammo, however the best harnesses also have a pouch for an air tank. The air tank pouch is often balanced directly in the middle of the harness and usually used as a convenient pocket to carry your CO2 tank connected to your marker with a remote line. While some players prefer not to use a remote line during play, the air tank pouch is still very handy for carrying either an extra tank or various other supplies that fit in the pocket. The best harnesses with air tank pouches have velcro straps or a drawstring to tightly secure the tank in the pocket. Air tank pouch paintball harnesses are the best value for your dollar and also the most convenient and advantageous on the field. Besides a malfunction with your paintball gun, the only other reasons you may have to leave a game are running out of air or ammo. Paintball harnesses with air tank pouches solve both of these issues.

Another important feature to look for when buying the best paintball harness is how the ammo pods are secured. Most harnesses have pouches for pods that have a fairly tight fit but also hold them in place with a velcro strap on top. Large 140 round pods sometimes need to be pulled from the harness with both hands. It seems the most vulnerable situation on the field is when you’re out of ammo and have to reach into your harness for a pod full of paintballs. If the pods are difficult to get out of your harness, it can take too long and you can become an easy target. The best harness systems have a small elastic strap at the bottom of the pouch that acts to eject the pod upward when the velcro top strap is released. This feature works well and makes all the difference in being able to get at your ammo supply quickly when you need it most in the middle of the action.

How a Motocross Racer Should Use and Respect Protein

sfsAthletes need higher amounts of protein than your average individual, and there are a few solid reasons why. Protein is a key component of muscles, and necessary to build and maintain them in a healthy way. Also, protein is important in recovering your muscles, and repairing them after exercise and training. However, various types of athletes have different protein requirements, depending on certain factors including their weight and their intentions for their training.

On average: endurance athletes need approximately 0.55g of protein per pound, in comparison to strength athletes at 0.75g per pound. However, all athletes must balance out their protein intakes with the healthy, advised amounts of carbohydrates and fats in their diets. If an athlete were to restrict the other parts of their diet, and focus solely on high protein, then it would be counterproductive, as the athlete would start consuming the protein as fuel, rather than turning it into muscle.

Also, the way you intake your protein is important, along with the quantities you are consuming it. Research suggests that the most effective way to consume protein is to spread it out evenly over the day, with 20grams of protein every 3-4 hours being the ideal objective. So it is best to try and incorporate a small amount of protein in every meal, rather than load up on a massive high-protein meal once a day.

We have therefore compiled a list of examples of protein sources that would be beneficial to your training as an athlete:

1 – Grilled Chicken Breast
This skinless grilled chicken breast is one of the best sources of good protein for athletes. This food contains very little fat or carbohydrates, but contains approximately 27g of protein. Grilled chicken also contains all of your body’s essential amino acids, which your body needs daily.

2 – Fish
Fish is a great example of a low-fat protein source. Although, when consuming fish for your healthy protein needs, it is best to bake or grill the fish, rather than frying it or coating it in breadcrumbs. It is also important to consider the different kinds of fish, and how it can impact your diet. However, on average, a 3-ounce portion of cooked salmon contains 22g of protein.

3 – Eggs, particularly Egg Whites
Eggs have received a bad reputation because of their high cholesterol content, although for people who consume eggs regularly, the cholesterol in eggs does not increase their overall levels. In fact, a single egg contains 6g of protein, and 5 large egg whites contain an approximate 18g of protein. Asides from protein, eggs are also a good source of amino acids.

4 – Soy
Soy is possibly the best plant source of protein, which offers a solid vegetarian alternative to satisfying your protein requirements. There are many ways that you can incorporate protein-rich soy into your diet, including tofu, soymilk and soy-based yoghurts, and soy burgers and meat replacements. These all have variable good amounts of protein, beneficial for athletes.

5 – Roasted Turkey Breast
Turkey is one of the essential foods for athletes, as it is one of the main sources of good protein. On average, a 3-ounce serving of roasted turkey supplies 24g of high-quality protein. Additionally, turkey is a brilliant source of vitamins, including B6, niacin and selenium.

By making sure to intake good quality amounts of protein, you are treating your body right. An athlete needs essential high-protein foods, but also the quality and timing is important to remember when you are satisfying your protein needs.

Kitesurfing Champions Of Cape Verde

3sWhere Are The Best Kitesurfing Locations?

Perhaps you’ve seen kitesurfing exhibitions on TV, or saw some pictures of it in the internet, and found it to be very interesting. And like many others, you want to know where you can actually learn the sport. Luckily, there are more kitesurfing locations than you think. And because the rise of its popularity is phenomenal, their number is steadily increasing. So where are these places and how do you get there?

Basically any windy place with large open seas or bodies of water can be a kitesurfing location. That is why it is not confined to tropical places or coastal states. Beaches are not the only venues, as it may be done on large lakes and some rivers. As long as there are steady winds and a wide space with water, kitesurfing can be done.

Some websites contain a list of some of the best kitesurfing locations in the world. Aside from North and South America, there are several kitesurfing sites in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, and even in far countries in Asia and Africa.

Because the kitesurfing phenomenon is all over the world, there’s a big chance that a kitesurfing school or club operates in your area, wherever that is. And if you move to another state or city, chances are you can still find a kitesurfing club that you can join in. This makes kitesurfing a great sport to get serious with, unlike other sports like skiing which you can only do in specific areas.

Another good thing about kitesurfing is that it can be done all year round, for some areas. So if its’ the winter season in your place, which makes kitesurfing a bad idea, and decide to go on vacation in some sunny place, you can still enjoy the sport there. Also, riding in these places where the winds are not as cold as those in your place will make you enjoy the sport better. These resorts and vacation hotels provide kitesurfing lessons and equipment rental for the beginners.

But before you take on these courses, check first if the kitesurfing school has the needed permit to operate the same in that area. Be wary of schools which do not have this, as they might be having some safety problems which would then explain why they don’t have it in the first place. Or it could be that the sport is banned in the area.

In choosing the location, be sure to find one with written guidelines and safety rules. Or if state law requires these operators to observe a certain code, see if these are complied with. Take note that there are some places where it may be banned or restricted, maybe because of some safety lapses or accidents in the past. So make sure to do your homework before taking the first flight out.

There are many kitesurfing locations around the world. So if you plan of taking kitesurfing lessons, take the course in some resort in Asia or South Africa, for example, where lessons are relatively cheaper. But be sure to observe all safety measures in doing so. Lastly and more importantly, enjoy it.

Kitesurfing is a fun, thrilling experience that you will never regret. So what are you waiting for? Find a location now and give kitesurfing a try!

On one of my journeys I went on the beautiful and simple island of Sal, on the islands of Cape Verde. This place is one of the world’s islands with most beautiful blue skies and strong trade winds. Besides all this one of the main attractions on this island, are the waves travelling all the way from the atlantic to hit the perfectly structured topography. These ingredients make the perfect recipe for one of the world’s most beautiful barrelled wave called Ponta Preta!

Cape Verde is not only one of the best spots in the world but it is also home to the world’s best pro kite surfers namely:

Safety Tips When Whitewater Rafting for the First Time

43So, you booked a whitewater rafting trip? Congratulations, you’re about to embark on the most exhilarating trip of a lifetime! I’m sure you did lots of research and found the best outfitter in your area, but now that the trip is getting closer, you may be getting a bit nervous. This is completely normal! Having a bit of anxiety and fear is a good thing when it comes to whitewater rafting, it means that you have respect for the river and the water. More accidents happen when carelessness and inattention come into play. So, let that fear and anxiety loom. Read this article and learn how to best prepare yourself for your first whitewater rafting trip.

Whether you booked a half day or a 6 day trip, you’ll likely get a safety talk at the boat ramp or the launch area, but here are some important tips to remember.

Wear your life-jacket: this may seem like a no brainer, but it’s really the simplest way to stay safe while whitewater rafting. In Idaho, a rafting outfitter is required to provide type V life-jackets or personal floatation devices to all guests going whitewater rafting. A type V life jacket refers to the foam density and pounds of floatation in the device, basically it’s the safest type of jacket you can wear! So, once you are near the river’s edge, be sure that your life jacket is on and it is properly fitted. In order for a life jacket to be properly fitted, it needs to fit snug. This will make sure that if you jump into the water, your life jacket doesn’t float up and over your head, it needs to stay down around your mid section to do its job correctly. Always wear your life jacket anytime you are near the water or in the raft.

Watch your step: be careful getting around when on the river bank and especially when getting in and out of the boat. The rocks along the river’s edge are very slippery, so take your time. “Low and slow” is a motto that river guides use often, walk slowly and crouch down low when the rocks or terrain are particularly treacherous.

Listen to your guide: this is especially important when it comes to a paddle boat, where each person has a paddle. The guide will be calling out commands such as right side, left side, etc. They do this in order to navigate safely through a rapid, avoid rocks and ensure you’re having the most fun possible!

Sit in a recliner: if you do happen to fall into the water and you’re nearing a rapid, you’ll want to try to get back to the boat as soon as possible. Sometimes it’s not always possible to get back in the boat, you may have to float down river for a bit before being pulled back into the boat. This is OK, remember you have a type V life jacket on that will help keep you afloat, all you need to do is sit back in a la-z-boy recliner position with your feet out in front of you and float down the river. This position helps to ensure that if there are rocks in the river, you’re able to bounce off of them with your feet, and not your head or tail bone. You’ll also have a clear view of what’s down river.

Breathe above water: another one of those rules that seems very intuitive and lacks needing to be mentioned, but it really does need to be mentioned. A lot of people will go through an initial shock that they’re in the water and a moment of panic, which can lead to erratic breathing. Take a big breath when your head is above water and hold it when it’s under water!

Pay attention to your surroundings: there are regional threats to watch out for and your guides will fill you in on the specifics, whether it’s poison ivy, poison oak, snakes, etc. Just be aware of the land and it’s threats.

Above all, have fun! A whitewater rafting trip is the best way to spend a hot summer afternoon, and if you’re lucky enough, you are planning a multi-day adventure and will be spending 3-6 days out on the river! Enjoy every minute, let the sun kiss your nose, revel in the big whitewater, leave your watch behind, dig your paddle in and live in the moment of being on the river!

Basics Of Paintball

seePaintball is a game that is normally comprised of two groups. Each needs to cooperate to finish a target. You utilize your paintball marker to dispense with restricting players to attain to this objective. There are two fundamental sorts of paintball games; Scenario and Tournament.

Situation paintball can occur in the forested areas or on urban battle fields. Competition paintball generally happens on a speedball field, with explode fortifications and the target is to wipe out the other group and “hang the banner.” Players will call these two sorts of paintball by diverse names, yet the purpose of this article isn’t to discuss the sorts of paintball play. There are a lot of articles about that. The purpose of this article is to discuss what paintball is past the playing field.

Paintball isn’t simply a diversion, interest or game. It is significantly more than that. It is the spot you can go to have a great time and unwind. Paintball has a novel environment. It gives individuals the opportunity to escape from their ordinary life and make all the anxiety and issues vanish for a couple of hours or a weekend. You meet new individuals, make companions, you giggle and have a fabulous time and get some activity.

For some it provides for them the center they require in life. It has bailed individuals stay out of inconvenience or it provides for them motivation to work at an occupation to have the capacity to bear the cost of playing paintball on the weekend. It gets you off the love seat, out of the workplace seat and gives you a chance to extend your legs. There is a spot for everybody on the paintball field. For some individuals it prompts much more. It will provide for them motivation to work out, to join a rec center and work at carrying on with a healthier life.

There are a wide range of streets for individuals to take in the game. Some like to simply play for entertainment only and some like to play on competition groups and vie for prizes. There are other individuals that like to travel, play 2-day situation occasions, meet new individuals and see new places. What you need to do with paintball is all up to you. You can play a couple times each year, a couple times each month or consistently. You can join groups, make groups with your companions or simply appear to a field and discover individuals to play with. On the off chance that you are considering getting into the game, recall there is a great deal all the more excessively it, than simply circling on a field with a marker loaded with paintballs. It can be an experience and an approach to make memories that you will have the capacity to discuss for a considerable length of time to come.

For those of us who have been included in the game for a long time, we need to recall that these distinctions are what makes paintball extraordinary from different games, side interests or recreations out there. “You really get to live as uproarious as you need” – Matty Marshall. As players, we have to verify that each rental and each new player who strolls onto a field leaves with a grin all over. As a paintball group, we have to work with the new individuals coming into the game and verify they have the same extraordinary time that we all did when we initially played. In the event that we can cooperate, we can verify this diversion proceeds for a long time and will be around for future eras to appreciate.

How To Start A Winning Tournament Paintball Team

h5If you have dreams of being a professional paintball player, you will never get their on your own. This requires competing in big, professional tournaments and this can only be accomplished as a sports team. The fastest and easiest route is to get into an already speeding sports car and get on someone else’s team. The more difficult path (however ultimately more rewarding) is to start your own. The amount of work you put into making the team is incomparable to the amount of work required to actually get the team going in the right direction. The first step is to establish yourself as a solid player. You don’t need to be the most experienced or have the most expensive gear, but you should show other players you are easy to work with and is totally dependable. Show this to people during actual games by protecting other player’s backs and working hard to help achieve the game’s mission. Show other players how committed and ready you are to play and devote time to bettering your skills.

Putting out much effort like this will attract others who have the same desires as you and it shouldn’t be hard finding people who are willing to work. While working on becoming a better paintball athlete, keep your radar open for observing other players who have the same mindset and qualities that will benefit your team. In tournament style paintball, players hold certain positions on the field, so you will need to look for people who will fill them all for a complete team. The best teams are made of players who are adept at multiple areas on the field rather than just their own position. This will give you an automatic back up system just in case one of your players it out. Besides just filling spots on the field however, look for certain traits in players that will make them easy to work with and help propel your team to victories. For example, choose players who are aggressive on the field and always moving forward. People that are too hesitant and scared to do anything will be dead weight on your team. On the other hand, try to find people who are also smart with their movement and don’t just kamikaze rush out in every situation.

Another big asset to your team will be to have players who don’t mind working hard in practice. Getting good as a team requires much practice as a team. If you have members who don’t enjoy practicing or can’t make it very often, it will be hard to get better and can be distracting to other team mates. This makes a good reason to put a team together with more players than what you actually need. If you’re putting together a 5-man team, don’t stop recruiting after your fifth player; continue searching until you have eight. This way you have back up players in case something happens and full enough practices to get something done. While there are many drills and exercises that can be done with just a couple guys, practicing with your full team is important for perfecting certain plays and strategies. It’s also important you choose team mates who are not afraid to work hard, practicing every drill over and over again until they have it down. Your team will only be as strong as its weakest link, so allowing lazy people in will guarantee holes in your game.

Perhaps one of the most important traits to look for in a team mate when putting together a winning roster is the ability to take criticism and also give constructive feedback. While practicing, other team mates will be watching you and you will get a lot better a lot faster if they can evaluate your performance and give you feedback on ways you might do better. The player who can take this information and use it to improve rather than seeing it as an insult will be the easiest to work with and provide the most forward growth for the team. These qualities are not easy to find and it is rare you will find people with all of them, but try to search for people’s strengths as they would relate to your team’s performance (both on and off the field) for winning competitions. Most of these characteristics can be figured out by playing with them on the field, but take your time studying certain players to make sure they fit what you’re looking for before announcing an open spot on your team. Maybe even have them try out so you can evaluate them in certain situations.

Once you’ve hand-picked your players, you will need a team captain. While this is often the person who put the team together however doesn’t have to be. Decide within your ranks who wants to take on the job but realize he will be the heart and soul of the team. The captain is in charge of working on plays, reviewing field layouts, developing drills, contacting potential sponsors and coordinating practices and training events. He will organize and run practices and also find out about tournaments so he can set the team’s schedule. Team members should be willing to handle tasks delegated from the captain to ease some of his workload. If you have a team that’s big enough, you can elect other ‘offices’ like a treasurer or secretary who can handle other tasks like taking care of the finances and setting up travel plans. Decide if you’re going to have monthly dues or just split up costs equally as they occur, however a plan on how to handle this aspect is important as many partnerships have dissolved because of rifts over finances. Without sponsors, travel, entry fees, equipment, food and the regular expenses of paint will have to be paid for and an intelligent plan from the beginning will offset most concerns.

Paintball Gun Air Tank Safety Tips

321dFor powering a paintball marker, you can choose between CO2 or high pressure air, with most players choosing CO2 as these are the cheapest tanks to purchase. While most paintball guns can use either CO2 or compressed air, the more expensive tournament style markers must use high pressure air as CO2 can damage these guns. While ultimately cheaper, CO2 can be hard on any paintball gun however due to its nature. Compared to compressed air, CO2 is more volatile as it converts from gas to liquid (and vice versa) as its used in little spurts each time you pull the trigger of your gun. CO2 is also greatly affected by temperature changes. A properly filled C02 tank will have an internal pressure of about 850 pounds per square inch (psi) in 70 degree (F) temperatures. A temperature increase of one degree will cause the pressure in your tank to rise by 11 psi.

This means the temperature of your playing environment or storage area can affect how your marker will perform with CO2. If you’re playing in an environment of about 70 degrees, when the hot afternoon temperature comes your tank pressure can rise 400+ psi fairly quickly. Without a regulator, this will often cause your gun to shoot hot, possibly even dangerously high. In most cases, CO2 tanks will not overheat as long as they’re in use. Leaving them in the hot sun or in your car while you take lunch during a summer day is often how this happens. If a CO2 tank does overheat, it has a special mechanism (called a ‘burst disc’) that will keep it from causing a dangerous explosion.

The burst disc is a safety pressure relief valve that will rupture if a CO2 tank builds up too much pressure from getting too hot. The result is a spray of CO2 vapor that may cause the tank to spin around a bit until enough pressure is released. If this happens, the best thing to do is get away from it and wait for it to empty or at least stop making hissing noises; after which, the tank is safe to handle again. At this point, you can take the tank to any airsmith at a paintball shop or commercial air tank supply company. The burst disk can be replaced and he can set it to the proper torque, however this is something a professional airsmith should handle to make sure it’s done correctly. If you can’t find a professional airsmith, it may be easier to simply purchase a brand new CO2 tank as they are cheap and easy to find.

Compressed air is the other most common power source used for paintball guns. Compressed air tanks are more expensive than CO2, however their performance is much more consistent. They have built in regulators which reduce the pressure of air fed to the paintball gun to keep it below 800 psi. Most high pressure air tanks for paintball markers range from 3,000 to 5,000psi. When using high pressure air tanks, it’s important to read and follow all of the manufacturer’s instructions regarding usage and storage. Unlike CO2, compressed air is not as sensitive to temperature gradients; this is the main reason why they perform more consistently on the paintball field and are not as volatile to heat. If the burst disk ruptures or a component leaks on a compressed air system, follow the same protocol as with the damaged CO2 tank. The best thing to do is get away from it and wait for it to drain before taking it to a professional for inspection/repair. The leaking high pressure air from a broken gauge can cause serious injury by injecting air under the skin if a body part is held next to it.

All compact CO2 and high pressure air tanks used for paintball guns have a limited life span. CO2 and air tanks have an expiration date stamped on them, usually with 3 to 5 years from the time of purchase. After that the tanks must be tested and re-certified by a hydrostatic testing facility before they are deemed safe for further use. Unfortunately, the cost of testing/re-certification generally exceeds the cost of a new tank, so most players just opt to buy a new one. It is wise to regularly inspect your air tanks before each time you play. Check for leaks, dents, damages or other questionable signs of wear. Also check the tank’s valve or regulator to be sure it isn’t loose in the tank. Never remove or try to install the CO2 tank valves; this should only be done by a professional that has been trained in maintaining high pressure compressed gas equipment. As a general rule, if your tank springs a leak, get away from it until it empties; then take it to a professional for repair or simply buy a new one. If you are ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to contact the manufacturer or distributor of the product for advice.

How to Prepare to Play

xxxBefore playing many players have their own rituals or processes that they do each time. Although there may not be an exact right way of doing it there are some things that you should never forget to do. Let us start with when you first get to the field. You pull in and being to look for a parking spot. Many of the fields I have played at have grass parking lots that leave the where to park up to you. Typically teams will all park near each other or in a circle by each other to have their own little base camp to come to after each point in practices and each match at tournaments. There is where they can go over strategy and game play and offer each other advice on what they saw the person doing right or wrong. Once you have your little base camp most people begin to get their gear on to play. Always put your knee and elbow pads on first. I can not tell you how many times I have gotten almost all the way geared up to realize I forgot that very crucial step and I had to strip back down to get them on. Follow that with your pants, cleats, and jersey. This all seems quite self explanatory but there is a reasoning behind it all. Now that you have gotten most of your equipment on go buy yourself a case of the finest paint balls they offer and pay the entry fee if your field requires it. If you are anything like me this means the one that is the most bang for your buck. There is no sense in shooting the most expensive paint in a practice because you will need a lot more than anyone has previously told you.

Now run out and play right? No that is so very, very wrong. You still have a lot to do before you are even ready to step foot onto the field. Pods are your livelihood on the field and if you forget to fill a few of those bad boys up you are in for some trouble. That sounds simple enough, put paint balls in the pods. It is almost that simple but you must make sure to pack them correctly. Fill the pod up and then shake it so the paint balls can settle and fill the gaps. After that add a few more paint balls so that they do not rattle when you shake them up. Often times the lid of the pod will actually compress the paint balls ever so slightly down. A quote that applies to paintball probably more than what it was intended for is “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. Bring enough pods onto the field with you so that it will match your position and job on the field. Back guys typically carry more and should really be shooting their guns the entire point. Front players have a lot of moving to do and shoot a little less. Either way you can not hit what you do not shoot at. Also be sure to store your paint in the shade or out of direct sunlight because it could cause them to swell. Now toss those pods into your pod pack in the way yours is designed to hold them and strap it around your waist.

Now that you have most of your gear on and ready, do some stretches. You are going to be running, sliding, diving, crouching, and tucked into all sorts of little spots that will strain your body if you do not prepare. Do not get stuck sitting out because you pulled a muscle from failing to stretch. Depending on the field, some places have the a period before practice or games start to check out the field. I highly recommend doing so because although it is probably set up to a layout even an inch off can open and close shots. If you do not walk the field you may think a shot will be available but then once you start playing you may find that it is not there. This can work alternatively where you can think you are safe in a certain position but due to the way the field is set up that day, you may be right in the line of fire. Knowledge is power, do not forget that. Now get back to base camp and talk over what you have seen with teammates so that you can get a good understanding of the whole field, not just the position you play.

Now if you did not already do so get your gun setup put together. Match the paint to the barrel and fill up your loader. Even more important than that make sure you fill your tank. Have you ever tried to drive a car without gas? Unless you have an electric car it probably did not go so well. Well if you do not fill up your air tank you are going to feel the same way. You will not be able to shoot paint balls with an empty tank. If you wear any head ware now is a good time to throw that on and your mask too. It is time to chronograph your marker. This means shooting over a chronograph to read what velocity your gun is shooting paint balls at. Somewhere between 280 and 300 is ideal but make sure not to go over because it could result in a penalty in a tournament. Once you get that all set and ready to go after making necessary adjustments, you are ready for game time.
